Annual Conference - Session Two Descriptions

Thursday, November 7 | 11:00am - 12:00pm

2A: The Outs and Ins of Transfer Credit
Location: Westbrook A

Many policies in higher education have become more inclusive to allow students of all backgrounds to succeed, yet most transfer credit policies have remained stubbornly stagnant and exclusive. Let us help you envision new inclusive policies for transfer as we take you through the various paths a student may walk transferring out of a 2-year institution into a 4-year, through a student’s lens.

Presenters:
Katie Walo, Registrar, Stonehill College
Evan Desatnick, Coordinator of Transfer and Articulation Affairs, Roxbury Community College

2B: Youngest in the Room: A Panel Conversation of Young Leaders
Location: Westbrook C

As the higher education workforce continues its transformation, younger generations of leaders are moving into important institutional roles. As younger leaders navigate this transition, they are often the youngest in the room and with that comes unique challenges and opportunities. This session will provide the chance to hear from young leaders across the region as they discuss their professional journey, highlighting successes and opportunities as well as challenges encountered. If you are a young leader, this session is for you!

Panelists:
Renee Kamauf, Deputy University Registrar, Yale University
Kelsey Simonson, Registrar & Director of Community Standards, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine
Shawna Lind, College Registrar, Northern Essex Community College
Max Brodsky, Registrar, New England Law Boston

2C: FERPA 201
Location: Stannard

Think you know everything there is to know about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)? The U.S. Department of Education's Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is issuing a challenge to all attendees to apply their knowledge to the test! In this session, we will explore a variety of real-world scenarios that concern student privacy and ask you, the audience, to help us work through them. This session provides an excellent forum for discussion of complex issues regarding FERPA and a great space to have your questions answered. Do you think you have what it takes? To that we say, "It depends!"

Presenter: Ross Lemke, Manager of Privacy Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), U.S. Department of Education
